What Does Affordable Housing Mean?

Affordable housing refers to safe, stable, and quality living spaces that are reasonably priced based on household income levels. It ensures individuals and families can secure a home without compromising other essential needs like food, healthcare, and transportation. The goal is to make housing accessible to a broader range of people, including working professionals, families, and seniors, who may be underserved by the traditional housing market.

Affordable housing is not the same as public or government subsidized housing. Instead, it refers to well maintained, privately developed housing with income based rent structures, designed to keep housing costs aligned with residents’ earnings. These homes serve working individuals and families who earn too much to qualify for traditional low-income housing but still face challenges in today’s competitive rental market.
